2024 North Carolina Road Team Captain
North Carolina Trucking Association
Applications due June 1, 2024
In an effort to promote highway safety and inform the general public about the trucking industry, the North Carolina Trucking Association, through the North Carolina Road Team Foundation, formed North Carolina’s Road Team. The Road Team consists of commercial truck drivers who excel at their profession and are dedicated to safety, courtesy, and responsibility.
The North Carolina Trucking Association is accepting nominations for the 2024-2025 NC Road Team. These nominees must be full time commercial truck drivers with excellent safe driving records and be willing to share their message with the public. Presentations will include driver education classes, business and civic organizations.
Road Team Captains will also participate in NCTA sponsored activities. These drivers must be willing to spend an average of two days per month representing the trucking industry at events such as Driver Education classes, driver meetings, career events and NCTA events. The NC Road Team Captain's will serve a term of 18 months, where 6 months will be devoted to being trained and teaming up with the current Road Team Captains, 6 months serving solo and 6 months training the incoming Road Team. Nominees must have the ability to relate the positive safety aspects of the transportation industry and its’ importance to a vibrant economy.
Why do we need an NC Road Team?
The North Carolina Road Team was formed in 1996 as a multi-purpose public awareness program. The main objectives are to “Promote Highway Safety” and enhance the public’s perception of the typical truck driver. Past experience has taught us that as little as 10% of the public has a realistic idea of the safe driving records of most commercial truck drivers. Road Team Captains will dispel this myth with testimonies of the millions of “safely driven” miles, by thousands of drivers yearly.
Promoting highway safety has and will continue to be the main purpose of NC Road Team events. “No Zone” presentations are being brought to driver education classes in many counties throughout North Carolina. Sharing the road and reinforcing the importance of courteous driving are topics also discussed with people from all walks of life.
Nominating a driver for the Road Team:
The nominator must be a motor carrier executive with the authority to commit his/her company’s support for the program, or a self-sponsored owner operator. The nominator should also confirm before submitting the nomination that the candidate is willing to participate in the program.
Following the nomination due date, applicants will be screened and semi-finalists selected to meet for a final selection process. Each will be required to give a brief presentation related to highway safety. This will be followed by a question and answer session with the nominated driver.
